Gianna

Eight

On the way over to Mason's, August filled me in on everything that is going on today and how he plans to trap Ethan into confessing his plans for premeditated murder on tape. August seems to think if he can get him riled up enough, he'll admit to everything. It all sounds good in theory, but I'm not sure I believe that Ethan harbored enough hate to commit a murder or even set one up. I understand the adage of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer, but August's account of his transgressions sounds more like jealousy than anything genuinely scandalous. While I know drugging someone and holding them against their will is technically a crime, he didn’t hurt August. Hell, my own friends drugged me and took me out of the state. If anything, his theory proves we have questionable taste in friends.

I'm so caught up in my thoughts that I don't realize August has pulled up outside a condominium complex.

"Where are we?"

He gives me a surprised look and narrows his eyes at me in confusion.

"We're at Mason's."

I don't get a chance to respond before he exits the car to come around and open my door.

"There isn't much here. He moved in right before the accident."

That makes sense, I suppose. Mace mentioned moving out a while back, but I didn't realize he had a place already picked out. Staring up at the place, I'm reluctant to go in. Once I go in, I have to face my mom, Elio, and him. I'll have to own all my feelings instead of burying them down deep as I've always done. When I was in Florida, I decided I was turning a new leaf. I'm going to live for myself instead of bottling everything up and shutting people out. Letting people in doesn't mean they will hurt me. They can only hurt me if I give them the power to do so.

August must sense my hesitance because he pulls me into a hug, which immediately calms my inner dialogue. He holds me for a few long moments until I break the silence.

"Can we just run away?"

I feel his chest vibrate with laughter before he places a hand on either side of my face and pulls me back. Searching my face for signs of actuality, I watch as his hopeful gaze lands on my mouth.

"Kiss me, August." The request leaves my mouth on a breathy plea. I truly love this man, and I don’t want him to go.

Leaning down, he takes my lips in his in a slow, sensual embrace. His tongue tenderly strokes mine, and I can't help but wonder if this man's touch will forever make me weak in the knees. He kisses like an adonis and fucks me like a god. I don't want to let him go. I just want to stay in this moment. Unfortunately, I know I need to face my reality. Reluctantly I pull back, and as I do, he catches my chin and peers down into my eyes.
